Christi Friesen coming to teach in Europe

Hi everyone,

Just want to let you know that Polymer Clay artist Christi Friesen from the USA is coming to the west of Ireland in May where she will conduct a 3 day workshop.

It is a fairly easy and inexpensive hop from London, Manchester or Gatwick to Ireland West Knock airport. Would love to have you here to join the Americans who are coming for the workshop (and a bit of a tour afterwards).
Here is a link to more information and you can find a link to Christi's website on this site.

Erica Sturla - Original Art in Polymer Clay

I trained at art school in the 80s and specialised in Fashion illustration and journalism. My working background is graphic design and illustration.

For the last nine years I have worked extensively in Polymer clay and acrylics, to create scenes with colourful, three-dimensional and quirky characters set against painted canvas backgrounds, often featuring the familiar Sussex scenes I love (and usually a loitering seagull!)

My designs appear on a range of greetings cards featuring my humorous clay figures which are sold exclusively throughout the UK by a leading card retailer.

My clay and acrylic works are sold in galleries as well as online and may be commissioned as unique mementoes of a special event. Individuals or whole groups can appear in the picture in a chosen setting which is special to them. A Wedding scene was produced with each guest appearing in their special wedding outfit!

More of my work can be found on my website:
www.ericasturla.com

Current projects include writing and illustrating children’s picture books with my lively polymer clay personalities.

Philippa Todd

I joined the Guild in 1997, not one of the founding members, but it was not to long after its conception that I became a member. I first came across polymer clay at a Dolls House fair where Sue Heaser (former Guild Chairman and founding member) was teaching some workshops; I attended them all and was hooked!
Having joined the Guild I went on to attend the first Polydays (and all subsequent ones since, although in the later ones I attended as a Tutor) and was delighted to mix with a group of folk that were so knowledgeable and friendly. Having been invited onto the committee I later became secretary and following the AGM in July 2009 I was honoured to take on the role of Chairman. Sadly cicumstances resulted in my resignation in 2010. However I wish the Guild and the new committee every success in the future.

My area of interest is making miniatures – specifically miniature food; mainly in the standard Dolls house scale of 1/12th but some 1/24th if the mood takes me. The work I make is specifically for the adult collector’s market; each piece being hand crafted, highly detailed and very realistic. The authentic foods I make covers all cuisines and historical periods with complete meals a speciality. My range extends from single items through to elaborate buffets or filled shop counters. Commissions are welcome; for more examples of my work please visit my website www.toddtoysandminiatures.com.

In the past I have written regularly for Dolls House and Miniature Scene Magazine and Dolls House Projects Magazine.

I won a scholarship to attend the International Guild of Miniature Artisan’s Guild School at Maine USA in 2005 and was awarded Artisan status in 2006 and was delighted to be awarded Fellowship status in 2010.

I teach classes in making miniature food in the USA, Denmark and the UK. I also teach small classes at my workshop in Wiltshire.

Public area of website

Hi everyone, the updated website is looking very good, nice and "clean", however, I did think that the public area could be enhanced. It would be nice to have more things to look at and maybe a couple of more places to go. This may help to promote the group more and attract some new members.
Maybe there could be a small gallery from all levels of membership which changes on a regular basis to add varitey. It would be nice to see everyone's work at some point - I will even show mine if this suggestion is taken up.
Are there anymore ideas for this area?
